Türkiye's finished steel exports continue to rise

4 July 2025: In May, Türkiye increased exports of steel products, while domestic crude steel output declined by 2.8% year-over-year (y-o-y) to 3.1 million tonnes (Mt). Overall shipments of finished steel products rose by 16% over this period, to 1.5 Mt. Most buyers in the EMEA region were likely attracted by competitive prices and short lead times.

Turkish suppliers boosted deliveries of flat products to Spain, Belgium, and Ukraine. Meanwhile, buyers from Romania and the UK showed higher demand for long products. Although Italian customers increased purchases of longs, they reduced imports of flat products. In the meantime, longs output in Italy rose by 1.8% to 1.2 Mt, with production of flat products up 9% to 824 kt during the same month, according to Federacciai.

In January-May, total export volumes of finished steel products from Türkiye reached 562.4 kt, compared to 406 kt during the same period last year.

In May, Türkiye also lifted imports of finished steel products by 6.6%, to 1.2 Mt compared to the same month last year. Deliveries increased mainly from Egypt, Russia and Japan although anti-dumping duties were imposed on some of these origins. Shipments from China and Korea fell amid ongoing AD investigations along with recently introduced trade measures.

During the first five months of 2025, Turkish imports of finished steel were almost unchanged at 4.6 Mt. In the meantime, deliveries of semis reached 3.2 Mt, up from 2.8 Mt. Attractive offers of semi-finished products from Asia, Russia and Algeria helped Turkish producers to reduce their costs and boost overseas sales of finished steel products.
