2 October 2025: In August, Turkish suppliers increased finished steel shipments to overseas markets by 5.6%, to 1.37 million tonnes (Mt).
European customers continued replenishing stocks with imported material ahead of the upcoming CBAM regulations, with ample quota still available. Turkish deliveries to Italy, Spain and Belgium in August jumped by 59.8%, 36.9% and 96.4% year-on-year, to 136 thousand tonnes (kt), 70 kt and 63 kt, respectively. Ukraine raised imports of Turkish finished steel from 64 kt to 87 kt over the same period amid increased requirements.
Turkish mills also received demand from other countries in the Middle East, Africa and South America.
At the same time, Türkiye lowered exports to Romania and the United Kingdom by 15.9% and 13.5%, to 85 kt and 62 kt, following significant shipments to these destinations in the previous months.
Finished steel imports into Türkiye in August fell by 2.9% compared to the same month last year, to 822 kt, but semi-finished products deliveries jumped from 578 kt to 790 kt over the same period due to competitive prices from Asia, while scrap costs were strong.
